The project analyses methods suitable for describing positive climate impacts, aiming to identify their applicability for different purposes and the most useful approaches from the state’s perspective. The analysis considers the possibilities to increase climate‑mitigating effects and the resulting economic benefits.
The climate handprint and methods comparable to it are the focus of the detailed analysis. The analysis is carried out using different criteria and mirrored against the needs of various policy processes. The work examines the principles that should guide the assessment of climate benefits: for example, how the climate benefit of a Finnish export product should be evaluated, what role comparisons between Finnish export products and those of competitor countries play, and when production in Finland may be a better climate option than production elsewhere.
