The Finnish Climate Change Panel is a scientific and independent panel of experts supporting planning and decision-making relating to climate policy. The role and tasks of the Panel are defined in the Finnish Climate Act.
The Finnish Climate Change Panel promotes dialogue between science and policy on issues to do with climate change. The Panel compiles research data and issues recommendations to support decision-making.
The Finnish Climate Change Panel is made up of 15 distinguished researchers from key scientific disciplines relevant to climate policy. Professor Jyri Seppälä of the Finnish Environment Institute will chair the Panel for the period 2024–2027. The staff of the secretariat will assist with the Panel’s work.
The Panel’s reports and position papers are based on scientific evidence, drawing on its multidisciplinary expertise. The reports and statements are published on the Finnish Climate Change Panel’s website, with the information produced by the Panel openly available to various stakeholders. Research-based data to support decision-making
In accordance with the Finnish Climate Act, the task of the Finnish Climate Change Panel is to produce, compile and analyse scientific information and identify information needs in terms of climate change mitigation and adaptation for planning, implementation, and monitoring of and decision-making on climate policy. The Finnish Climate Change Panel issues statements on climate policy documents and also produces other reports and materials, which it disseminates to the public and decision-makers as appropriate. A multidisciplinary community of researchers
The Finnish Climate Change Panel is a multidisciplinary community comprising 15 researchers representing the main scientific disciplines relevant to climate policy. The members of the Panel work full-time at universities and research institutes across Finland and work for the Panel part-time.
The members of the Finnish Climate Change Panel are selected on the basis of proposals from universities and research institutes. The Panel is appointed by the Finnish Government for a four-year term at a time.
